fries and co. [revisit]
looking for a quick place to grab some grease, co-investigators smolyn, mandryk, and g joined me for a return to fries and co., as regan hadn't been there yet. conveniently our visit coincided with the release of the local entertainment rag's "best of food" edition, which declares fries and co. to have the best fish and chips. do they continue to live up to the hype?the place was rammed today, so we hit the patio at the edge of the parking lot to find seating. service was a bit slower, but not suprising given the amount of traffic they were seeing. fries and co. offers the standard 1, 2, and 3pc plus family pack options, but they are simply equivalence sizings; quite frequently their fish is a little smaller so you generally get more of them than expected. this can have an adverse effect on the bish:batter ratio however, and is often not a welcome change.
today's visit was marred by soggy chips, possibly caused by the unusually high customer throughput. regardless of the reason, this slip in quality is unacceptable and puts our title of "best on the peninsula" for fries and co. in jeopardy. on the up-side, they have remodelled their bathrooms since our last visit, and they are now a pleasant place to wash off excess grease. overall we have to kick fries and co. down a notch, and contender captains' catch closes the gap towards the "best on the peninsula" designation.
